Cleaning hairstyling tools before disinfection
Combs, clippers and scissors carry hair, product and skin residue that a disinfectant cannot reach through. A benchtop cleaner removes the soil first; disinfection follows as its own step.
Technical guide. Figures are taken from our own spec tables; for your process we confirm the settings with a cleaning trial.

An ultrasonic bath removes soil. Disinfection is a separate step that follows cleaning and needs an approved product and procedure; the ultrasonic cleaner does not replace it.
Hairstyling tools touch skin and hair all day. Combs and brushes collect hair, styling product and skin flakes between their teeth; scissors and razors collect them in the pivot; clipper blades pack hair and oil between the teeth. A disinfectant sprayed or wiped over that layer does not reach the metal below it. Cleaning comes first, and an ultrasonic bath does it in the places a brush cannot.
What goes in, and what does not
- In: metal combs, scissors (opened), razor holders without the blade, clipper blades removed from the clipper, metal and hard-plastic sectioning clips.
- Out: anything electrical, including the clipper and trimmer bodies; brushes with wooden handles or natural bristle; soft plastics and rubber, which absorb the energy and may swell.
The routine
- Remove loose hair by hand.
- Ultrasonic cleaning in a detergent intended for instruments, at the maker's concentration, tools in a basket and not touching each other, 5 to 10 minutes at 40 kHz, below about 45 °C.
- Rinse in clean water and dry completely; scissors and blades get a drop of oil in the pivot or on the teeth.
- Disinfect with the product and contact time your local rules require.
- Store dry and covered until use.
Change the bath at least daily, and whenever soil is visible on the tank floor; clean and dry the tank at the end of the day. Wear gloves when handling used tools and the bath.
Which size
The STS-060 or STS-090 (6 or 9 L) takes combs, scissors and clipper blades for a small salon; the STS-150 (15 L) suits a salon with several chairs; the STS-300 (30 L, tank 500 × 300 × 200 mm) takes long combs and brushes with metal handles flat.
